Hmph.

Dude, I'm an adult, and I'm pretty sure that means I can eat NOTHING but Lays Baked Doritos today if I want.

I have eaten a lot of Peeps recently.
Broke up with my boyfriend. Sleeping in a smaller bed. Did some spring cleaning. My plants desperately need to spend some time outside.

Looking forward to seeing Much Ado. My show (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in Lexington) opens in three weeks.

*This isn't a "pity-me" post. It's all good. I just needed to write it down somewhere.

Can't be too flirty, mama...

Prince has been in my head for the last 5 days and he won't get out!

You don't have to be rich to be my girl... You don't have to be cool to rule my world... Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with... I just want your extra time and your

Sweet.

I have landed the role of Mae in Cat on A Hot Tin Roof in Lexington, with the Lexington Players. I'm excited and it should be totally fun. She's evil and shrill and completely loathsome.

If you're not doing anything on the days that you're not going to see (or perform in) Much Ado, you should come and see it. It's April 11-13 and 18-20. More details in several weeks.

Yipee skipee!

Fact: I am 30 years old.

Fact: I feel like a child approximately 80% of the time.

Erm?

Oh yeah, also: Spider Pig, Spider Pig / Does everything that a spider pig does...
Happy Friday :)

Chained.

I was lucky to be let out of work early yesterday. I watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with my sweetness and then we went outside in our zillions of layers to shovel the driveway. There was A LOT of snow. We shoveled for a while. The hell of it? Our landlady (who is never there) has a snow blower in the garage, but it is chained up and locked to the wall. All attempts to contact her failed.
After failing to reach her, we ditched the shovels and made snow angels. She can do the rest herself when she brings the key.

Pay it forward, too.

I'm inspired by [info]imlad. Cookies from scratch to the first 3 commentors. I'll probably be pretty quick with the cookies. I like to bake.

imlad's message:
Pay It Forward: I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment here on my LJ.

I don't know what that gift will be yet, but you will receive it within 365 days.

Might be 'most anything. Perhaps: an matchbox shrine, handmade paper, artist trading card, collage, or a poem ... so, well, you will just have to trust me.

The only thing you have to do in return is "pay it forward" by making a similar agreement on your blog.

You already know what kind of day it's going to be...

Often, I wait until I get to work to have breakfast. I do this for two reasons:

1. It means that I don't have to cut into my zombie-ing around time in the morning. That time is important to me.
2. I get breakfast for free.

Recently, in an effort to off-set the unhealthy stuff I eat in the afternoon/evening, I've been enjoying a modest breakfast of grape nuts and fruit. It's been good to me. Except today. I found a hair in my grape nuts.
OK, so it was my hair - it clearly came from my head. But once a hair leaves the body it becomes immediately gross to me. I don't care if you just shampooed 6 times, I do not want to eat your hair. Or mine. Bleck!

I'm trying not to let this shape my day. But yuk!

I did have a super weekend. I saw Hugh McGowan (hosts the back-room open mic at the Burren on Tuesdays) and Green Mountain Grass (amazing blue grass from Austin) at Passim on Friday and they rocked my face right off. Then I rested under many blankies on Saturday with my sweetie as we ate take out from Legal's. Yesterday I had a huge brunch with several of my favorite sketchy musician types. A good weekend - good food, good friends, and lots of Star Trek was watched.

On second thought, let's not go to Camelot: it is a silly place.

I saw Pan's Labyrinth last night. Whoa! Beautiful and disturbing. Brutal. When that guy did the thing with that other thing to that other guy?! D.A.M.N.

So, the silliness-
I have always worked with engineers and scientists. I'm used to it. My dad is an engineer. My brother is an engineer. My life is lousy with 'em. They're an interesting bunch- mostly misanthropic, certainly OCD, caffeine-dependent, socially awkward (OK, maybe not ALL of them, but still). And yet I love and admire them (but not their hand writing, which is always too small. I find that irritating). I know that if you catch them at the right time, they have a wonderful capacity for passion and humor. I don't really know why I mention it, except it's been a particularly silly morning in the office, with lots of giggling and pointing at people and good-humored mocking. That made me think of my brother, and how I can still talk to him in the middle of the work day on the phone and he'll say something ridiculous and I'll have to do that silently-laughing- my-ass-off in my cubicle thing. Here's a part of our conversation from this morning:

Him: So I'm in my car and I have a few minutes before my (job) interview. I gotta go - I have to finish my coffee.
Me: Yup. Good luck.
Oh, hey - in five minutes or less how do I get rid of circles under my eyes - REALLY prominent ones?
Um, I don't know, take something cold - NOT your coffee - and put it under your eyes?
I don't have anything cold. (pause) I know, I'll smoosh my face up against the window! Bye!

Ok, transcribed it doesn't seem so great, but I was almost under my cube I was so amused. Mostly it was the picture of this often grumpy and serious guy with his face jammed against the car window in the parking lot of the place where he's trying to get a job. Hee hee.

Anyway, I can't wait until the end of the day because my Sweetie and I are driving up to Portland tonight to see a friend of ours, and the added bonus is that two other good friends are playing at a bar there. YAY, a two-fer!

*Update - it occurs to me as I'm reading this before posting it, that I am a champ at displaying all of those engineer qualities! Ahhh! NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

long weekends are superfine

I had a relaxing weekend for the first time in what feels like a long time. I went to Lake Sacandaga with my Sweetie. It's about 30 miles south of Lake George and clear and warm and beautiful. Sweetie's mom has a small cabin and we joined her and Sweetie's grandparents. The grandparents are ridiculously cute - they are 88 and 89 and spend their days doing chores and walking back and forth to the lake ........ very....... slowly....... while holding hands.
I went swimming for hours (and I'm sore for it now) and we had huge hot dogs and local corn and tomatoes and peaches and yum! I can't wait to go back on Labor Day weekend when I turn 30!! The nicest part was that we had a 3-day weekend because I took Friday off and he took Sunday off. We drove home late Saturday night, fighting sleep (we did this by loudly singing along with Phish, unfortunately there are a lot of instrumental bits on Lawnboy so we did our best to approximate the sounds of the instruments and make up additional verses to Reba.
Yesterday we got up late and had a big brunch (mmm... bacon) and cozied up in front of the tv with salt & vinegar chips and champagne (a classy combo, I know).
Now I'm at work and I'm approving invoices and timesheets and filing paperwork  and it's just not as good as sleeping in and wearing my swim suit all day and going barefoot.

White, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Black

What a great show! I'm still on a show high, and I expect that the post-show "what-the-hell-do-I-do-with-myself-now??" feelings will start tonight. Last night I was just so happy to stay in and be lazy. I felt like I could put stuff away (I recently moved - YAY!) and eat an actual meal that wasn't delivered or frozen or made primarily of Skittles. But, of course, I know what I'll do now: play with my cats, see my friends play music, exercise (no really), try to bake the perfect loaf of bread, enjoy wine club. Wow, I'm exciting!!

So, I spy:
  • White - my t-shirt, and I wish I had a sweater because they keep the office at approximately 5 degrees below 0 (that's absolute zero, not regular old zero...)
  • Red - delicious breakfast apple - not symbolic of anything
  • Orange - juice, they supply us with plenty of disgusting carrot juice
  • Yellow - post-its
  • Green - lip balm - Mint Julep flavored, in honor of the show
  • Black - stapler, printer, cell phone, computer - I have very chic office accessories
